COUNSELLING
Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues.
“Real help is different. Real help, professionally or personally, consists of listening to people, of paying respectful attention to people so that they can access their own ideas first”
Nancy Kline, Time to Think: Listening to Ignite the Human Mind
What’s offered:
Therapy is a big commitment. We want you to have plenty of information about our services to help you make the right decision for you.
We welcome any and all questions and concerns.
Life doesn’t have to be a constant balancing act.
You can get peace…
You can learn to pause…breathe…connect…
We provide counselling support to adults for…
- Difficult life events – such as bereavement and/ or grief, losing a job, addiction or abuse.
- Mental health issues – where counselling can offer a supportive environment that can help with issues such as anxiety, depression, self esteem, stress, chronic illness, developmental trauma, body dysmorphia, self harming and suicidal ideation.
- Life transitions or decisions – with areas such as getting married, becoming a parent, starting a new job, menopausal change or retiring.
- Self discovery – where someone may seek counselling or psychotherapy because they want to learn more about themselves or work on their own personal development.
What to expect
Therapy is a difficult journey for many as your patterns and behaviours are analysed and challenged in the hope to see change.
Those who succeed in counselling will need to be open minded to new strategies, be willing to try new methods, and dedicated to their scheduled treatment.
Therapy is client led, meaning we will not carry you, rather our role is to walk alongside you, at your pace, with guidance and support.
What’s the exploratory Session Like?
In the exploratory session, Our first meeting will be a discussion where the main focus will be for us to get to know each other, and for me to gain a clear understanding of why you are seeking counselling, and of what you are looking to change. To learn more about why you are looking for help now. To give you the chance to see if you think we could work together.
What happens if you would like to go ahead?
If you go ahead, I will guide you through the expectations of therapy; both what you can expect from me and what I will expect from you. We will discuss confidentiality and answer any and all questions. Next, we will help in determining your goals and will make a plan to achieve these together, in the form of a type of “contract” that we work together on. Be prepared to laugh, cry, stretch, grow and reach goals you might have thought were impossible.
My therapeutic style is rooted in the belief that people are intrinsically valued and are deserving of fundamental human connection;
to be seen,
to be heard,
and to be understood.
My role as the therapist is to offer guidance, support, and tools to empower the individual to make life-affirming choices that would improve your social and emotional wellness.
To walk alongside you as you navigate your own personal growth toward your truest self.
